The Tour of Gironde by Bike

The genesis of the project

The Gironde is a department crossed by three major routes : EV1-La Velodyssey (EV1), the Canal of the two seas by bike and the EV3-La Scandiberic.
These make it possible to capture 18% to 20% of bicycle tourists who devote their holidays to discovering an itinerary. In addition, the occasional use of bicycles during the holidays is booming, leading to an increase in local rental and demand.

There was therefore an intermediate niche to position the Gironde as a cycling destination in its own right, particularly on the French market. The creation of a Tour of Gironde by bike could therefore be envisaged by relying on the great wealth of the network of trails developed by the Department for many years: these infrastructures already made it possible to do the "tour of the Gironde by bike" crossing the majority of the tourist areas. .

This new positioning therefore aimed to capture French customers first of all, who choose their destination for cycling over long distances, but also the local customers, including the Girondins themselves, who will want to discover the Gironde in stages, at their own pace.
Since then, customers of foreign origin are also present on the course following the promotional operations carried out (Belgium, the Netherlands, and first contacts with American professionals). 

Finally, to facilitate the promotion of the route, 10 must-see sites were identified on the course, including 60% inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO.
Their notoriety makes it possible to capture visitors and then make them discover other attractions of the territories crossed.
The crossing of the different Bordeaux vineyards is an important factor of attraction for the Tour de Gironde à Vélo (Entre-deux-Mers, Médoc, the vineyards of Blaye and Bourg). 

The Tour de Gironde is as much in the summer season as in the winter season.

A promotion on the national platform

The site France Cycling Tourism allows cyclists to organize their cycling holidays. It highlights all the major routes that cross France. the Gironde Bike Tour is one of these.

The Tour de Gironde à Vélo is regularly highlighted by articles in the form of focus, favourites, or thematic stays.
Promotion is also provided in English, German and Dutch.

Partnerships with tourist guides

The promotion of the Tour de Gironde à Vélo is ensured by two publishing houses: les éditions Ouest France and the editions chamina.

Growing marketing

Evazio Bordeaux agency

Historical partner of Gironde Tourisme, the agency Evazio Bordeaux specializes in stays for individuals, groups and companies. Stays and trips by bike, on foot, on horseback, by car in France.
Le Gironde Bike Tour was quickly added to the list of his proposals.
