Unusual accommodation

Unusual accommodation is characterized by its atypical and unconventional side, both in terms of its form and location, and the services associated with it.

It is a relatively recent concept (developed from the beginning of the 2000s) which was originally presented as an alternative to the more traditional and limited accommodation offered by campsites (mainly tents and mobile homes). This type of accommodation promises an immersive, off-the-beaten-track experience.

Although there is no definition of “unusual habitats” in the Town Planning Code and the Tourism Code, these accommodations are necessarily subject to regulations for their establishment.

In each situation, it will be necessary to question the proximity of the unusual accommodation offered to the accommodation recognized by the two codes. There is now case law which makes it easier to orient yourself.

ADN Tourisme carried out analysis work with a legal firm and a tourism consultant, who will be able to help project leaders.
