The Velodyssey

Open since June 30, 2012, La Vélodyssée is the French part of the EuroVéloroute No. 1 route crossing Norway, Ireland, Great Britain, France, Spain and Portugal. In France, it links Roscoff to Hendaye and covers the 3 regions and 10 departments of the Atlantic coast.

In France, La Vélodyssée represents more than 1200 km of cycle routes in France, 80% of which are on their own site... with 56 stages and 14 sections... It is one of the longest French cycle routes, the easiest, the most secure and a of the richest in tourist discoveries…

This major route is an important opportunity for local tourism, ensuring many economic benefits for all tourism providers, especially accommodation.

In Gironde, the 178 km route (safe and accessible to all) begins at Pointe de Grave opposite the Cordouan lighthouse, then crosses, between the seaside and the large lakes, the seaside resorts of Soulac-sur-Mer. , Montalivet-les-Bains, Hourtin, Carcans, Lacanau and Le Porge before reaching the picturesque villages and ports of the Bassin d'Arcachon.

The Vélodyssée ends in apotheosis at the foot of the Dune du Pilat, to be climbed to enjoy a 360° panorama of the Basin, the Atlantic Ocean and the immense forest of maritime pines.

To find your way around, La Vélodyssée has dedicated, functional, identical signage throughout France, with the same recognizable logos throughout the route: the green logo of the cycle routes plus that of the European Eurovéloroutes with the appropriate number of the Velodyssey.

La Vélodyssée is a project carried out collectively by 3 Regions and 9 Departments united around a common ambition: to position La Vélodyssée as a route of excellence for cycle tourism in France and abroad.
