The ocean beaches of Gironde

The Point of the Medoc

All to the north of the Médoc, Le verdon-sur-mer is home to two beaches, three lighthouses and four ports, including that of Pointe de Grave. There you will find the ferry linking the two banks of theEstuary of the Gironde as well as boats bound for Cordouan lighthouse, the “Versailles of the Seas”. It is also in Verdon-sur-Mer that in Gironde the Velodyssey, a major European cycle route that will take you to the Bassin d'Arcachon (160 km).

Soulac, the Belle Epoque

Benefiting from the arrival of the railway, Soulac-sur-Mer was one of the first summer resorts in Gironde. There are nearly 500 villas (XNUMXth and Belle Epoque) and a major site: the Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Fin-des-Terres (XNUMXth century) listed as World Heritage by UNESCO under the Paths of Santiago de Compostela.

Lakes for the whole family

Continuing on your way to Carcans-Plage, make a stopover at Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans, the largest natural freshwater lake in France (66 km²!); ideal for learning to sail, this lake can also be discovered during a walk or mountain bike.
You have come to Carcans-Maubuisson, a kingdom for the little ones: beach clubs, rides, pony rides, mini golf, trampolines, swimming lessons... Children will have a blast in this "kids resort". A stone's throw away, on the right bank of the lake, the Domain of Bombannes meanwhile offers kayaking, archery, 120 m zip line, climbing and surfing as well as the rental of sailboats and windsurfing boards.
Further south, a nice place for swimming and activities for the whole family: The Moutchic, On the Lacanau lake.

The Médoc, land of origin of naturism…

If you are looking for naturist areas, prefer the seaside resorts of Grayan-Et-L'Hôpital (which saw the birth of naturism in 1950,  Euronat), Montalivet or Porge-Ocean, whose domain The Jenny is home to the only naturist golf course in the world!

And large natural spaces

As you have understood, on the Girondin coast, nature is omnipresent. So take advantage of a moment between two swims to stroll in complete serenity in a nature reserve such as the Etang de Cousseau or the Contaut Lagoon. Real havens of peace between dunes and forest.

Lacanau-Ocean

You are now entering Lacanau-Ocean, one of the oldest seaside resorts in Gironde, which becomes in August during the week of Lacanau Pro, an essential stage of the world surfing championship. We find there, as in Soulac-sur-Mer, Belle Epoque villas. In addition to nautical activities, you can try your hand at golf or take a horseback ride through the pine forest.

Arcachon bay

Our flight over the ocean beaches of Gironde ends with the Arcachon bay, where you will also have the choice between several spots: north side, Le Grand Crohot, Le Truc Vert; south side, the Little Nice (labeled Tourism and Handicap), La Lagune, La Salie… and many others.
