Unique geological spot: the oyster cave

Turtleneck & Shellfish

Vou will only see this in Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, we assure you: a realization of nature, ladies and gentlemen, just for your beautiful eyes.

It is the story of oysters accumulated at the bottom of the sea and that natural erosion has frozen for eternity. 22 million years old, from the time of the tertiary era more precisely, these oysters took advantage of the receding waters to come to light, under the castle of medieval origin dating from the XNUMXth century, Château Tastes.

The fossil oyster cave overlooks the Garonne and offers an unprecedented panorama of the Sauternes. The story could end there, except that these caves serve as a wine cellar, because in summer, this is where the sweet white wine from Entre-deux-mers is kept cool. To get there, you will have to walk the path that descends from the forecourt of the Castle.

We also inform you that a little further, but still in Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, we find another indelible trace of history, on the Château Loubens estate this time: a chapel dug in the XNUMXth century in the middle of our famous oyster cliff. Come on, have a nice ride!
