Ideas for cycling trips in Gironde

Cycling weekend from Bordeaux to La Réole

Entre-deux-Mers is an ideal destination for cyclists. The hilly landscapes rich in heritage are remarkable. We stroll there all year round, with pleasure.

Stages: Bordeaux – Créon – Sauveterre-de-Guyenne – La Réole
About (74 km)

During this journey, you will take the Roger Lapébie trail. It is one of the most beautiful cycle routes in France, already known long before the craze for cycling. This track built on an old railway line connects Bordeaux to Sauveterre-de-Guyenne. You can cycle there in complete safety. The old stations have been transformed into a museum, Tourist Office, restaurant and offer the possibility of visiting, eating and learning… The wine châteaux labeled Vignobles & Découvertes or/and Accueil Vélo also open their doors to cyclists.

After Sauveterre, the route becomes a little more sporty with some significant elevations, but the beauty of the landscapes and the viewpoints largely reward the efforts. Before taking the return train from La Réole station, a visit to this city, labeled City of Art and History, a remarkable city, is a must.

Want to extend this experience by bike?
The track continues towards Fontet on the Canal de Garonne, then via Castets-et-Castillon and Langon, or via Bazas. It is connected to a beautiful track through the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park towards Hostens from where a bifurcation leads to La Brède, Léognan then Bordeaux.

Another possibility is to continue the itinerary along the Canal de Garonne as far as Agen, Toulouse, even as far as Sète on the Mediterranean!
