You are here on the eastern shore of Lake Carcans-Hourtin, the largest natural lake in France with 6000 ha. If the ocean roars nearby, the wildness is on the other side of the dunes. The diversity of the environments (lake, marsh, dunes, forest...) contributes to the richness of this site, in particular the flora and insects, the profusion of which will astonish budding or professional entomologists. This Sensitive Natural Area is the property of the Departmental Council of Gironde, the Conservatoire du Littoral and the municipality of Hourtin.
