This great southern route connects the Alps to the Atlantic Ocean. The Gironde portion, the last point of the latter, connects Sainte-Foy-la-Grande to the Bassin d'Arcachon over 245 km.

We start in style since four bastides, new towns created in the Middle Ages, punctuate the beginning of the route.
Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, its old stone or half-timbered houses and its market mark the first stage.
Excavator, with its XNUMXth century Town Halle century to the surprising little belfry comes next. You cannot miss the small cast iron and glass hall, a miniature replica of the Monségur hall, in its centre.
Blasimon, meanwhile, retains its medieval covers where the town hall takes place. The Saint-Nicolas church is renowned for its sculpted Romanesque portal (one of the most beautiful in the department) and the convent buildings, remains of the abbey.

Then we win Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, a model of its kind, with four main streets leading to the four fortified city gates. Its central square is punctuated by vast cutlery.

In Castets-et-Castillon, a town located at the gates of the Canal des Deux Mers, which connects the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, is the Canal de Garonne. It connects Toulouse to Bordeaux and emerges in the Garonne. The banks of the canal, laid out in terraced gardens planted with plane trees, the towpath, the bridges, the locks, form an exceptional ensemble.

Then we win Langon, located around a meander of the Garonne, dominated by the Saint-Gervais church.

The Ciron valley leads the hiker to Sauternes world famous for its sweet wines and its prestigious castles. Villandraut, dear to Pope Clement V, preserves the pontiff's castle, both palace and fortress.

To the side, Saint-Symphorien keeps the memory of François Mauriac. There is the chalet, the holiday home of the famous writer's family. By crossing the Landes de Gascogne Natural Park, the walker joins The cough, very popular with lovers of relaxation and green tourism. Then following the course of the Leyre, it reaches Salles and its castle to reach Le teich, rich in its ornithological reserve with 310 species of birds.

Le GR® Arcachon basin tour is then offered to hikers to reach the seaside town from Arcachon crossing Gujan Mestras, the city of seven oyster ports which celebrates "the pearl of the Basin" (the oyster) that hikers will not fail to taste!
