Port of Tiles

It is from this port that the tiles produced in Biganos were embarked on barges which took them to all the ports of the Basin to the oyster farmers who collected their oyster spats there. This use of tiles is still relevant. At low tide, the cows forded the river, joining the salt meadows of the Ile de Malprat. Today, with its thirty huts, this port remains a very wild place, adorned with "cotton trees" (baccaris) and reeds, and placed under the protection of the Conservatoire de l'Espace Littoral et des Rivages Lacustres. The port has 22 jetties managed by the city (draft from 0 to 1,20 m depending on the tides, slipway and fishermen's huts). Shops are 2 km away.
