Your itinerary

1

Departure: House of Tourism and Wine of Pauillac

You are behind the Maison du Tourisme et du Vin de Pauillac, facing the Gironde estuary, the largest in Europe. To your right, you can see the traditional fishing huts of our estuary called CARRELETS.
2

Wooden footbridge and Marquis de la Fayette

Continue your route by taking the wooden footbridge that runs along the estuary. From here you will discover the fauna and flora of the Estuary but also the history of the city of Pauillac through explanatory panels as well as photos of the Pauillac of yesteryear. Go to the marina and stop on the Esplanade La Fayette. Here is the model of the Victoire, the boat of the Marquis de la Fayette commemorating his departure for America.
3

Patiras Island

Just after passing the port, continuing on the footbridge to the north, you see a lighthouse on an island. In the past, this island was used as a quarantine for ships that came to unload their goods. Today, corn and vines are grown there.
4

Chateau Grand Puy Ducasse

Now continue walking along the quays to a Château Grand Cru Classé. This Castle dates from the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th. Its buildings are arranged like a horseshoe around a small garden. Its vineyard was already cultivated and its wine appreciated in the 15th century.
5

The market hall

After having seen this prestigious castle, turn left and go up rue Ferdinand Buisson then turn right You arrive at Place du Marché. The market hall dates from the 19th century. It was built in the same way as the Eiffel Tower with an iron structure.
6

The monument to the Pauillacais

After the market, continue rue A. de Chauvet until the intersection of rue Jean Jaurès then turn left to get back to place de Lattre de Tassigny. During WWII, a huge bombardment destroyed this neighborhood. This monument is a tribute to all the missing persons who lived in these houses.
7

Church of St. Martin

Let's continue our history lesson by joining the Saint-Martin church. This building was built almost 200 years ago. In its place was a very old church surrounded by its cemetery, but the mayor of the time who prohibited the celebration of worship had this Church demolished. Three years later, the walls of the new church were erected, and the new building completed two years later. If you enter the Church, you will see a magnificent suspended boat. It is an "ex-voto": a gift offered by sailors to protect them at sea.
8

Sundial

At the corner of rue Pasteur is a curious terracotta sundial. The sundial is a silent and still instrument that indicates the hour or solar time by moving the shadow of an object called the gnomon.
9

Public Library

Now go down rue Aristide Briand to the municipal library. Robin's friend is hiding in the window. What's his name? Spirito!
