SAINT-SYMPHORIAN

This circuit is located around Saint-Symphorien where the parents of François Mauriac had built a holiday chalet. The young Mauriac, until adolescence, traveled these places today unchanged and drew a lot of his inspiration there.

Your itinerary

1

The start

Take the start of this beautiful hike in front of the village hall of Saint-Symphorien. Take the small road on your left and go down to the washhouse. Go up on 50m to join the departmental circuit.
2

Step 2

Turn right and take the side of the departmental road for 500m to the bend.
3

Step 3

There, you cross the road and take the path opposite (beacon). Go along the last houses on the right, then, at the intersection, continue to the left (beacon). You enter the pignada where you will advance for half an hour in the smell of pines towards the place called Lassus.
4

Step 4

You arrive at Lassus, a typical district of the Landes de Gascogne massif, called airial and which is made up, in an isolated clearing planted with leafy trees, of traditional houses and common outbuildings such as the bread oven.
5

Step 5

Cross the airial to the bread oven, turn right to join the D115, then right again to the D220.
6

Step 6

There, turn left for 50m then cross the road and veer onto the path to the right (beacon). You cross the hamlet of Luc, staying on the marked path and to the right of the houses to respect private property until you reach the marker located at the bottom of the airial on the edge of the wood.
7

Step 7

500m further on, at the fork, continue to the left as far as the Marian mill.
8

Step 8

Cross the bridge and pass between the house and the barn, keeping to the right and remaining discreet. Follow the markings through the pines to Jouannet. Keep left. You then arrive at the crossroads with the secondary road. The circuit continues on the left, but if you wish to see the Mauriac property, turn right and walk along the park to the Arcachonnais style house which is the Mauriacs' holiday chalet.
9

Step 9

If you went to the chalet, come back to the crossroads and resume the circuit. Walk for about 1,5 km to the first bend. There, take the path engraved on the right towards "Le Brous". Cross the hamlets and continue to the last houses (follow the green markings). This district was also mentioned by Mauriac.
10

Step 10

You then leave the main track after the beehives by turning completely to the right. Walk straight for 1,5 km paying attention to the palombières to the "Carbouey" district.
11

Step 11

Stay on the track which bends to the left. Continue straight for 500m. Go down between the oaks and the houses. Stay to the left of the houses and join the small paved road of "Carbouey".
12

Step 12

At the crossroads with the departmental road, continue straight on the track (watch out for traffic).
13

Step 13

After 500m, go left of the beacon, go up to the left then turn right. You have joined the cycle path along which you will walk for about 2 km.
14

Step 14

Before the bridge over the Hure, turn right to enter Saint-Symphorien and reach your starting point.
