BORDEAUX

Going to the beach by bike from the city center of Bordeaux, in complete safety, may seem unrealistic. However, this route has existed for a long time in its peri-urban part backed by the departmental cycle path created in 1980 by the General Council on the site of an old railway line of local interest.

Your itinerary

1

The start

Your starting point is on the quays of Bordeaux, opposite the Place de la Bourse, at the edge of the water mirror. Walk along the quays to the north, enjoying the view of the facades listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. Go past Place des Quinconces and reach the first converted hangars.
2

Step 2

There, turn left (Km 1,7) to take the protected Cours du Médoc track. Warning: this part requires your vigilance because of many crossings and car access.
3

Step 3

You arrive at a large roundabout which you go around opposite on the allées de Boutaut (follow the tram!) (Km 3,1).
4

Step 4

You arrive at Lake Bordeaux and turn left to walk along it on your right. Continue to the motorway bypass which you cross passing under the bridge. Turn right when you arrive on the track that runs along the ring road (Km 6,3). You pass close to the nature reserve of the marshes of Bruges then you leave the motorway landscape to enter a residential area bordered to the north by a natural and forest area.
5

Step 5

You will soon arrive at Saint-Médard-en-Jalles where you will discover the old station transformed into a cycle station (Km 17,7). Take a break, you are soon in the middle of nature.

Continue to Sainte-Hélène (Km 34) where the track branches off to the left along the road to Saumos.
8

Step 8

In Saumos, take advantage of the rest area located near the old station (Km 42,7) before going back up towards Lacanau.
9

Step 9

You arrive at an intersection (Km 52,5). Continue straight north. If you wish, from the left, join the Bassin d'Arcachon by following the direction Lège-Le Porge on a wide and rolling track implemented by the General Council. A tip: if you want to make a loop of 70 km between lake, forest and ocean, take, at point 9, in Lacanau, the direction Lège-Le Porge, up to Arès, then the slopes of the Médoc South coast up to Grand Crohot to go up to Lacanau-Océan via Le Porge Ocean.
10

Step 10

You have arrived at Lacanau (Km 53). The track ends at a crossroads which you turn left towards Lac de Lacanau. This route is protected by a 30 zone. You go around the port and the playground before heading back into the forest.
11

Step 11

Follow the directions when you arrive in the residential area of Marina de Talaris (Km 58) then follow the road to Le Moutchic where the track overlooks the lake. This superb natural space with deep blue waters is an ideal place for swimming in complete safety for children.
