Sallebruneau Commandery

Parking

The commandery, founded at the end of the 1280th century by the Templars, passed around 1987 into the hands of the Hospitallers, then into the order of Malta. Today, the Commandery retains the remains of a chapel and a castle attached to it. The chapel is a simple rectangular room formerly covered with a framework, which ends with a flat chevet pierced by a triplet decorated with a cord of interlacing and diamond points. The castle, built in the XNUMXth century, was protected by a square tower at the north-west corner, vaulted and defended by two floors equipped with cruciform arrow slits. Two large breaches opened the north and west walls of the building. Two watchtowers on corbelling, one on the thick eastern buttress, the other at the northeast corner, ensured the protection of the rest of the building. The Commandery is listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments (XNUMX).
