On the borders of the Gironde and at the gates of Périgord (25 km west of Bergerac), Sainte-Foy-La-Grande is a country house of French origin founded in 1255 by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint-Louis. It stretches along the banks of the Dordogne, a strategic position that made it a coveted stronghold for a long time.
Sainte-Foy-la-Grande presents, over its checkerboard plan, a remarkable architectural heritage: central square with arcades and half-timbered houses from the 100th and XNUMXth centuries, several of which are listed in the Inventory of Historic Monuments. On Saturday morning, it hosts a market ranked among the XNUMX most beautiful in France.
