North of Saint-André-de-Cubzac, the village of Saint-Gervais is home to Maison Rémy Brèque, famous for its Crémant de Bordeaux. His story is interesting. In 1927, Rémy Brèque, a violin teacher, became passionate about the “champenoise method” which he decided to apply to Bordeaux wines.
The curiosity of your visit lies as much in this sparkling beverage as in the old underground quarries. In this maze of more than a hectare of galleries, the bottles rest upside down in curious wooden displays in the shape of an inverted V (stands). There, you learn how white and rosé Crémant de Bordeaux is produced, which is available in brut, semi-dry and organic.
When you return to the surface, be sure to stop in the large tasting room with exposed beams to taste different vintages.
