Presented outdoors, this exhibition will also give you the opportunity to admire the remarkable remains of theabbey, registered with UNESCO under the roads of Santiago de Compostela.
Erected in 1079 in the heart of a vast forest (“sylva major”), the Sauve-Majeure was a powerful landed seigniory and controlled many priories in Spain and England. The grandiose ensemble that remains around the remains of the abbey church, the chapter house, the cloister, the scriptorium and the refectory is representative of Romanesque art, and includes famous sculpted capitals. Finally, the bell tower offers an exceptional view of the entire Entre-deux-Mers.
