Great European cycle route, La Vélodyssée is the longest cycle route in France (1250 km, including 170 in Gironde, from the Pointe du Médoc to the Bassin d'Arcachon).

In Gironde, the route begins at the Pointe de Grave (opposite the ferry landing stage providing the Royan/Le Verdon-sur-Mer link), then crosses the seaside resorts of Soulac-sur-Mer (from where the you can see the Cordouan lighthouse), Montalivet-les-Bains, Hourtin, Carcans, Lacanau and Le Porge, before reaching the peninsula of Lège-Cap Ferret, gateway to the Bassin d'Arcachon. Between dunes, maritime pine forest, fishing villages and oyster ports, the route ends in apotheosis at the foot of the Dune du Pilat, the highest dune in Europe (110 m) which offers an exceptional panorama over the entire Basin. from Arcachon.

You can of course continue on the Vélodyssée as far as Hendaye (Basque Country), i.e. 243 km!
