BAZAS

The departure is from the Bazas greenway towards Bernos-Beaulac to take you to our iconic Kings of Navarre: the Château de Cazeneuve. After visiting the emblematic residence of Queen Margot and spending some time under the park's giant bamboo grove, the refreshing gorges of the banks of the Ciron are yours. It is a circuit without difficulty, with a shaded path which runs along the mythical river, appreciated by canoes. The loop continues on paths lined with ferns and a return to the Cité jacquaire.

Your itinerary

1

Cazeneuve Royal Castle

The Royal Castle of CazeneuveThe shadow of Queen Margot still hangs over this property of the Kings of Navarre. Built in the XNUMXth century on the banks of the Ciron, the castle was altered many times to become the magnificent princely residence of Henri IV, who liked to hunt there. Renaissance style, the building retains sumptuous furnished royal apartments. The park still houses the so-called “Queen Margot” cave and a bamboo grove worthy of tropical countries.
2

Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral in Bazas

From the pretty square surrounded by covered houses from the 1840th and 1577th centuries, one reaches the Saint-Jean cathedral (Monument Historique-list of 1578), built in the 1998th and XNUMXth centuries on the model of the great Gothic cathedrals of northern France. The cathedral was largely devastated by the Huguenots (XNUMX-XNUMX), but the portals, the finest example of Gothic statuary in the Gironde, were spared. The central portal is devoted to the Last Judgment and the story of Saint John the Baptist; the side portals are to the Virgin and to Saint Peter. The interior of the building, of great sobriety, is remarkable for the perspective of the narrow and long nave. (XNUMX).
