The walk begins at the foot of the Esplanade des Quinconces, the largest square in Europe. Take the direction of the Chaban-Delmas bridge and follow the quays.
2
Chartrons quays, Bacalan quays
The Quai de Bacalan, located between the Chartrons district (antique dealers) and the Garonne, is the symbol of Bordeaux's port past. In the immediate vicinity of the river, the hangars, former port warehouses, underwent a spectacular renovation ten years ago and today form a space for leisure and shopping very popular with Bordeaux residents.
3
City of Wine
At the heart of an evocative architecture, La Cité du Vin is a unique cultural facility that shows wine differently, across the world, across the ages and in all cultures and civilizations. It offers a permanent route punctuated by 20 thematic spaces telling the story of the culture of wine thanks to an immersive and sensory staging, the last stage of which will take you to the belvedere for a wine tasting.
4
Quinconces Esplanade
It is the largest square in Europe. Facing the river, there are two rostral columns surmounted by statues dedicated to the maritime and commercial activities of Bordeaux. On the way up, stop in front of the colossal statues of the Bordeaux philosophers Montaigne and Montesquieu, then in front of the Monument to the Girondins, made up of gushing bronze fountains and its column surmounted by a Statue of Liberty breaking her chains. Circuses, fairs and flea markets take place there every year.
5
Jacques Chaban-Delmas Bridge
With a height of 77 meters, it stands out as the highest lifting bridge in Europe and offers a fantastic panorama over Bordeaux. On the left bank, you can see the Cité du Vin, a unique cultural leisure site in the world, where the soul of wine is expressed through an immersive and sensory approach. On the right bank side, you can see part of the industrial site of the Grand Port Maritime de Bordeaux as well as the Aquitaine bridge in the background.
6
Darwin - Niel Barracks
Co-working space, restaurant, organic grocery store, association spaces, permanent site for reflective and festive events... this atypical space welcomes more than a thousand people every day!
7
Botanical Garden
Divided into six distinct landscapes, the botanical garden hosts a spectacular aquatic garden with its collections of water lilies and water plants, an arboretum and magnificent greenhouses.
8
Parc aux Angeliques
This park is located along the right bank of the Garonne, Bastide district. The portion of the park located between the stone bridge and the Chaban-Delmas bridge is a playground and relaxation area very popular with Bordeaux residents (picnics, bowling, basketball)
