THE BARP

Le Barp is located on the Grandes Landes road linking Bordeaux to Spain. Itinerary of the King's Post Office network in the XNUMXth century and on the route of the Roman road known as “Camin Roumieu” which designated the path in patois and which linked Bordeaux to Dax. A stopover on the way to Santiago de Compostela from the XNUMXth century, the town developed around the Relais Hospitalier and the Priory.

THE “LE CHALET” MEDIA LIBRARY Built in 1845 by Mr. DEUX-BREZES who was a minister and who made it his hunting lodge. M. DEUX BREZES had married Miss du TAUZIN, daughter of a landowner from Barp. The municipality bought the property in 1983. Today this building has regained its proud appearance and contributes magnificently to the embellishment of the city, its style recalls that of the beautiful residences of the winter city of Arcachon: Pavé and lace

St Jacques Church

It is built on the primitive sanctuary of which it preserves vestiges, visible on the south wall of the nave. Inside the building is a cast iron statue of Saint Roch with his dog. The bell tower, built in 1893, houses two bells. The big one is called Anne-Marie, cast in 1895, its diameter is 1,35 m and weighs 1400 kilos. The little one is called Marie Antoinette, cast in 1772, its diameter is 1,10 m and weighs 760 kilos. The pediment, which comes from the old church, represents the scene of the Miraculous Fishing.

"Colors", work n°18, Forest of Contemporary Art

Born from a common dynamic, in the heart of the Landes de Gascogne forest massif, the association La Forêt d'Art Contemporain (FAC) aims since 2009 to create in rural areas a real tool for the production and dissemination of art. contemporary in the form of a regional itinerary. "Colours" is an unusual project which consists of taking advantage of a landscape with the arrangement of four blocks of colours. Former farriery

Belin road painting dating from 1900. This sign once told travelers where to find the blacksmith their mounts or cars needed. This craftsman was simultaneously blacksmith, blacksmith, wheelwright and locksmith. In the center of Barp, step towards Compostela and, from Bordeaux, the 4th post station served by the great families of the rider of the king, became in 1859 a major crossroads by the creation of the Hostens Marcheprime road.
