Iconic by bike: The Château de La Brède

Departure from Place Marcel Vayssière, in front of Sud Bordeaux Tourisme. Leaving the car park, take the Route de Massiot on your left. At the first roundabout take the third exit, left. At the second roundabout, continue straight at the second exit.

After the Vigneau de Bas commune entrance sign, turn left on Jean de Ramon road. Following the road, you can turn left to make a detour to see the very famous Château Smith Haut Lafitte. Otherwise, continue straight on Chemin le Thil to the end then turn left on Route de Loustalade.

At the first intersection, follow Chemin de Pargade to the right as far as Avenue de Cadaujac. Turn left, continuing straight ahead, pass Château Larrivet Haut-Brion and take the third exit at the roundabout. Follow the cycle path which takes rue Jules Guesde to the right.

At the intersection, take Avenue de la Duragne to the right. You will then turn right on rue de la Liberté. After the Château Haut-Bailly continue straight on the chemin des Agunelles, then turn right on the route de Loustalade.

At the roundabout turn left and follow the cycle path to the roundabout where you will take the route de la Dîme on the right. Then take the first right and turn right again. Follow Route de Mirebeau to Avenue Charles de Gaulle. We advise you to take a detour along the Route de l'Hironde on your left to see Château Latour-Martillac.

Turn left on avenue Charles de Gaulle and continue straight at the intersection. Follow the Haut Nouchet road to the end and turn left on the Tout Vent road. After a few meters, take the path on your left. Pass in front of the red cellar, continue straight on Allée Glaudiche then Chemin Chanteloiseau on the right. Take the second path on the left and follow the Chemin d'Avignon on your left. Continue this path to the end and turn right, Avenue Edouard Capdeville. At the roundabout, turn right and continue straight. Take the safe roadside route on Avenue du Château to the Château de La Brède. The Château de La Brède is a small jewel of Gothic architecture surrounded by a body of water. The place of birth and residence of Montesquieu is borrowed from the soul of the great philosopher. Inside, the room and the library are preserved and outside a very beautiful English park. The ensemble has earned the Château de la Brède the label of Maison des Illustres.

After admiring Montesquieu's residence, take Avenue du château on the left to head back to the town center of the village of La Brède. Proceed to the church and turn right, avenue Charles de Gaulle. Then take the small alley from the station to the right at the roundabout until you cross the cycle path.

Drive on the scandibérique to the fourth intersection and turn right for a few meters before taking the small dirt road on your right. Keep going straight ahead. Arriving at the end of Chemin de Cassille, take the path to the right before the last house. Arriving on the small road, continue to the left and stay on the paved road.

Continue straight at the intersection, follow the road, you will pass in front of the Domaine de Couquereau and turn right on Avenue Adolphe Démons. At the crossroads of the departmental road, take Avenue de l'Esprit des lois as far as Chemin de Chanteloiseau on the right. Then turn left at the first intersection, allée Glaudiche. Continue straight ahead, pass again in front of the red cellar. Turn right onto Route de Tout Vent, then the first right.
