Blaye – Bourg bike loop

From the Porte Dauphine (pedestrian entrance to the citadel of Blaye), we recommend that you take the street in front of you, Rue Neuve. This semi-pedestrian street will take you to Place de la Halle. Leave the small square on your right and turn left then immediately right to take Rue Jaufré Rudel. Climb the hill. In the Sainte Luce district, after the crossroads, turn right Route des Binaudes.

Attention ! At the next intersection you will cross a dangerous lane. At the stop sign, cross the expressway going straight ahead towards Route de Louméde. At a place called Lers, turn right at the crossroads on the Route de Lers-Louméde. At the stop sign turn left.

Go along the port and take the dyke on the right (path forbidden to motorized vehicles). Continue on the paved road between the plane trees. Climb the Rue Boyer hill towards the Gallo-Roman Villas.

Attention ! At the next intersection you take a dangerous path. At the stop sign, turn right onto Route de l'Estuaire then immediately turn left Côte du Paradis towards Château Monconseil Gazin. In Montuzet, turn right Route de Compostelle towards Château Monconseil Gazin. You are on the V80 Canal des 2 Mers towards Bordeaux: please follow this route. At the stop on the right. At the stop sign turn left on the V80 Canal des 2 Mers towards Bordeaux. At the stop on the right.

Attention ! At the next intersection you will cross a dangerous lane. At the stop sign, cross the expressway going straight ahead, direction Roque de Thau. You will follow the Corniche de la Gironde for several kilometres. At the top of the hill, in Bayon, turn right towards the church, still following the V80 Canal des 2 Mers towards Bordeaux. You will follow this route for several kilometres.

Follow the V80 Canal des 2 Mers towards Bordeaux, turning right at La Clotte. Follow this small road to the stone wall that surrounds the Parc de l'Esconge. Turn right on the path that runs along the park wall. Enter the park and walk along the pond which is on your left. You soon arrive at the port of Bourg. Enjoy the village and its artisans!

Once you have visited Bourg, you can go back the same way or continue your journey to Bordeaux. As for us, we suggest another route to make a loop to return to Blaye. Be careful, it's steep! Take Rue du Général Peychaud to reach the old tower called Porte de Blaye. Once you have passed this gate, turn left on the main road towards Blaye. Be careful, this road is very busy! Before the supermarket turn right.

Turn left towards the Libarde crypt. At the stop sign straight ahead towards La Libarde. Go straight ahead in the direction of Boucle de la Grave/Circuit de l'estuaire to the sign which will indicate the Château de la Grave on the left.

Turn left towards Château de la Grave then right towards Samonac. At the stop sign turn right. Be careful, you are going to take a very busy road! Turn left towards Saint Seurin de Bourg and take the first right (landmark: a wooden bollard with a hat painted green) At the stop sign, straight ahead to pass in front of the church of Saint Seurin de Bourg. At the crow's feet on the right (do NOT cross the bridge). At the crow's feet straight ahead then right at the next one. At the stop sign turn right towards Samonac. At the stop sign cross the road for take the Chemin de Passedieu.

Attention ! You are about to take a dangerous road. At the give way turn right then once you have passed the church turn left into Rue de l'église. At the stop sign turn right then turn left towards Saint-Ciers de Canesse. Once past the church, cross the village of Saint-Ciers de Canesse.

Attention ! You will cross a dangerous road. At the stop sign go straight towards Cars. You will stay on the D133 for a few kilometres. Watch out for cars but the view is breathtaking! Once you have passed Château Bel Air La Royère, turn left into a small street towards Le Cluzeau. Once at Château Barbé turn left then right. At the stop sign turn right . Be careful, you are taking a very busy road!

At the roundabout, go straight towards Blaye. You arrive in an urban environment. Go down the street to the Maison du Vin de Blaye which is on the main course of the town (it makes the angle on your left at the stop sign). At the stop sign, turn left but be careful of a lot of traffic on this course! arrived at the tourist office and therefore at your starting point, in front of the Porte Dauphine, the pedestrian entrance to the citadel.
