CASTETS-ET-CASTILLON

The canal is bordered by magnificent plane trees which are reflected in the water and offer a very appreciable shade in summer.
Before the “Two Seas” canal was built, it was necessary to join the Mediterranean to the Atlantic through the Strait of Gibraltar; this forced navigators to travel more than 3000 km, to face storms and pirates. Since antiquity, men have been looking for a faster and less dangerous way to connect these two shores of France. This was made possible by the Canal du Midi, then the Canal de Garonne which you follow here.

The Balades à Roulettes® (BR®) are short, quiet walks, with a stroller or a small bicycle, or adapted for people with reduced mobility (in a wheelchair), offered by the French Hiking Federation of the Gironde.
