The Bazadaise breed is the pride of the region with its renowned gastronomy. Since 1283, every Thursday preceding Mardi Gras, the city of Bazas has hosted the famous “Fête des Bœufs Gras” during which the finest specimens of the Bazadaise breed are presented. Adorned with ribbons and flowery crowns, the oxen parade to the sound of fifes and drums in the streets of the city, before being judged by experts.
