The mills of Gironde open their doors to you on the occasion of the European Days of Mills and Mill Heritage on May 20 and 21, 2023. Mills have been part of the Gironde landscape since the Middle Ages. Water-powered, wind-powered, transformed into mills or fortified, they will arouse your curiosity. 22 sites are open this year, on the program: demonstration of flour and bread production, hikes, activities, guided tours... The choice is yours!

Launch of the European Mill Days at the Moulin de Cussol in Verdelais

Magnificent windmill in operation, the mill of Cussol will be open all weekend to the public and many activities will be organized:
– hikes on Saturday (7 or 14km) and Sunday May 21 in the morning (7 or 12km) on registration.
Price: 2€ / person
– free tours all day of the mill with production of flour and baking bread in the wood oven.
– exhibition (free admission) on the mills of Gironde in the Chai du Blanc at Domaine de Malagar
– but also guided and themed tours of the home of François Mauriac.

In Blaye Bourg Lands of Estuary

Flour mill built in 1908 by Gaston and Arthur HUCHET. Stopped in 1982. Alignment of five Rose Frères aircraft. Wheat brush, bran brush and Planshister. All equipment and equipment are kept in perfect condition.

Former water mill from the beginning of the 1856th century, with three millstones, on an arm of the Ciron, obstructed in 150 during the construction of the railway. Abandoned for 5 years, it has been in the rehabilitation phase for XNUMX years thanks to volunteers from the Moulin Neuf and Heritage Association.

Freestone mill on the Isle, built in 1850 on the Isle. It keeps all the machines from 1937 in working order to transform wheat into flour. Over the three levels that can be visited, you will discover the secrets of this exceptional mechanism, listed as a Historic Monument in 2007.
Guided tours from 10 a.m. to 17 p.m. at a reduced rate for all (€5, free for children under 5). Demonstration of bread making (free), sale of special breads, exhibitor stands and events. Waterbike rental for a bike ride on the river (from 3,5€ to 14€ depending on the duration) and barbecue boat for a duration of 2h30 (you make your barbecue with a packed lunch made by the guinguette).
