The European Heritage Days in Gironde are back the September 21 and 22, ask for the program! Hidden treasures & unique experiences await you.
And just for you, here is our Top 5 free sites to consume freely and without reservation.
To start, we look towards the Pont Chaban and head quietly towards the Silos of Bacalan. While some were lucky enough to climb the concrete giants this summer, everyone will be able to examine two of the eight silos of the Renaissance Hotel up close and from the inside. You can even continue the experience with the projection of the animated work “The End of Their World” and chat with the artist.

We continue with the ICONIC of our Top 5: the Ducal Castle of Cadillac. For those who don't know it yet, take advantage of this weekend to explore the large rooms of this beautiful example of French architecture which combines the extraordinary particularity of housing a former women's prison. And what's more, the classy thing is that during the Heritage Days, we'll be dancing with the GIC group.

No need to have sea legs to take a look at our maritime heritage. Richard's Lighthouse invites you to climb up high with the highest view in the area. It is the most beautiful panorama of the Médoc and the estuary that is displayed. At the very bottom, the ecomuseum is dedicated to local life and, for fans of the Second World War, to Operation Frankton. The visit to the site also includes a visit to the educational fishing net where you can learn to fish – with a fishing net – depending on the tides.

To switch fromOperation Frankton to visit a real bunker, head to the Arcachon Basin and the La Hume oak grove park. Here stands THE most important fortification in the area. The Hume Bunker Type 506d was part of the second line of defense of the Atlantic Wall. Today converted into a bunker-museum, it is a place of memory in a pretty oak grove.

To finish our Top 5, we change theme and direction and we rush into the Landes de Gascogne Natural Park. On the banks of the Ciron, awaits us the Bernos-Beaula art foundryc. This 19th century buildinge century with a blast furnace bears witness to the glorious past of the town. You will know everything or almost everything about traditional cast iron techniques.
