Located in a medieval bastide 40 minutes from Bordeaux, this castle has known an incredible destiny! He embodied the omnipotence of the Duke of Epernon, a simple cadet of Gascony, propelled “almost king” under Henri III. Forerunner of the musketeers, forgotten by history, Epernon heralded d'Artagnan or Cyrano. From 1580 to 1630, this indestructible Gascon remained for half a century at the top of the kingdom. Its castle received Louis XIII, Anne of Austria, Richelieu, Mazarin, Louis XIV, then became in the 15th century a prison for women. After XNUMX years of restorations that have transformed it, its monumental and refined interiors are open all year round, every day (except Monday in low season) and are worth the detour! A destination of choice in the beautiful landscape of Cadillacs in the Côtes de Bordeaux.
