In the heart of the City of Wine

Around wine, Culture and heritage

Thursday, May 26, the Gironde Tourisme team was able to discover the Cité du Vin in preview, 6 days before the official opening.

So, how is the Cité du Vin?

Exciting (unanimously)! The City of Wine will undoubtedly be one of the major tourist stages of the Gironde destination.

A beautiful building

Congratulations to the architects Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazières of the agency XTU architects. Their City is as beautiful inside as it is outside. All in curves and luminosity. Perfectly successful, the concrete/wood/glass marriage forms a warm setting for the (remarkable) scenography imagined by the English agency Casson Mann.

Activities for all

Thanks to their own travel companion (multimedia guide handed out at reception), everyone can discover the history of wine from antiquity to the present day at their own pace. Nothing imposed: the permanent course is not fixed.
“The children will be bored”? On the contrary, they will love recognizing the aromas, touching, observing and, of course, immersing themselves in the many interactive thematic spaces (3D images, diffusion of smells, decorations). Modules are specially dedicated to them. There is even a workshop to share with the family (parents/children aged 6 to 18), a reading room, etc.
And for adults, a room is exclusively dedicated to wine and love; but shh, we can't tell you everything here...

The ideal starting point to discover the 6 Bordeaux Wine Routes

If La Cité du Vin invites you to dive into the heart of vineyards around the world, its information space “ Bordeaux wine routes » (on the ground floor) will make it easier for you to discover the vineyards of Gironde, by road or by river, thanks to the pontoon located at the foot of the Cité. You will find there all the wine tourism offer of the department (castles to visit, oenological cruises…) with the informed advice of the teams of theBordeaux Metropolis Tourist Office.

The largest wine cellar in the world

At the epicenter of the City is the jewel of the place: the largest wine cellar in the world! 800 references from 80 countries, i.e. 12 bottles, at a reasonable price (between €000 and €5).

A panoramic view of the Bordeaux metropolis

The highest point of the Cité du Vin, the Belvedere (8th floor) promises you an exceptional panorama of Bordeaux and its UNESCO-listed river, to be admired with a glass in your hand.

A complete catering offer

Panoramic restaurant on the 7th floor, wine bar, gourmet snack…everything has been thought out to delight the eyes and the taste buds.
